David Ian James

June 12th, 2011 we welcomed into the world a beautiful baby boy named David Ian James Anderson. This is my recollection of that day.
I woke up around 4:30am with a contraction, but went back to sleep, having been fooled on friday, I figured it wasn't real, and I didn't want to drag my hubby out of bed that early in the morning. At around 6, it woke me up again, and this time there was NO going back to sleep. I rolled over and told Ian, "I think this is for real," and he responded with, "I will just take you to the hospital and drop you off." (He was still a little frustrated about friday too.) So I went and got in the bathtub to wait it out and start timing the contractions, which rapidly went from 10 minutes apart to 3-4 minutes apart in less than 45 minutes. I knew it was real, and got scared because my doctor told me that because of my histories of fast labors, to go to the hospital when they were 10 minutes apart. Oops. By the time I got out of the bathtub, Ian also knew it was real and proceeded to finally get up. I woke up Marissa (who I wanted to be in the delivery with us) and told her to stay with her brother and I would call my mom and have her pick them up. I couldn't really take Marissa and leave Aaron home alone. So on our way to the hospital (the contractions now 2 minutes apart) I texted my mom (there was NO calling her) and told her to go get the kids. She wanted to ask me a bunch of questions like where to take Aaron and I kept responding with "?" We got to the hospital and they rushed us upstairs, and when they checked me I was 9 1/2 cm dilated and ready to go! They rushed me to the delivery room (no wheelchair for me! I walked!) and started setting everything up in a hurry. I asked if I could have something for the pain (drugs please!) and they told me it was too late. I was +2 (I think that means the baby's head was in the birth canal) and when they called my doctor he told them he wouldn't make it in time. Sure enough, the resident on call delivered the baby while sitting in the end of my bed. They didn't even have time to completely set it up with the feet things! I had to hold one leg myself, while Ian held the other. Needless to say, Marissa didn't make it to witness her baby brother born. Since we didn't know what it was, when Ian said, "It's a boy." I said, "Thank you Jesus!"
My perfect little angel was 8lbs 4oz and 20 inches long. He was born at 8:04 sunday morning June 12th. I was in labor about 2 hours. I only pushed once.
Thank you to everyone for all the well wishes and to everyone who has brought us dinner! I really appreciate everything! <3 you all!
